Sanchez Campaign Agrees With Kamala Harris’ Call For Debate Discussion on Environment and Climate Change; Challenges Harris to Debate the Issue

October 12, 2016 – Yesterday, U.S. Senate Candidate Kamala Harris issued the following letter below calling for a debate discussion of the presidential candidates on climate change, saying it is "one of the gravest threats facing our nation right now." Today the Loretta Sanchez campaign challenged her to prove she’s not just pandering as usual.

Sanchez Campaign Senior Advisor Luis Vizcaino issued the following statement on Kamala Harris’ letter:

“We agree that the environment and climate change is a grave threat that must be discussed.

"We invite the Attorney General to debate Rep. Loretta Sanchez and prove she truly cares about the environment and climate change.

"It would be hypocritical for Ms. Harris to "demand" this debate discussion of the presidential candidates and not accept one herself.

“She should explain to voters why she approved Southern California Edison’s plan to bury 1,600 tons of deadly radioactive nuclear waste at San Onofre beach. She can state why she ignored both the safety of the people of Southern California and the known risks to the coastal environment.

"We look forward to a spirited debate with Ms. Harris, a refusal would be hypocritical."
