High School Students Overwhelmingly Vote Sanchez for U.S. Senate in Statewide Mock Elections

Venice, CA – This week, Venice High School overwhelming voted for Loretta Sanchez (65 percent) over rival Kamala Harris (35 percent) in a mock 2016 General Election. The California initiative to increase civic engagement among high school students was organized by Secretary of State Alex Padilla and Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson.

Secretary Padilla attended the Venice High School mock election where results mirrored a larger trend across Californian High Schools in support of Loretta Sanchez. Statewide, students chose Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez for U.S. Senate over Attorney General Kamala Harris: 58.55 percent to 41.45 percent.

Said, Congresswoman Sanchez:
“It’s humbling to receive such overwhelming support from the next generation of voters. I am proud to represent the future of California- a future that finds strength in our diversity.

“Students want energy, passion, and someone that they can relate to,” added Sanchez. “We all want a leader who isn’t afraid to be different and is willing to take-on the popular kids.

“This election represents the future of California, a future where the daughter of Mexican immigrants can be U.S. Senator.”
