Take the time to read my story and join our campaign. As I travel this great state, I am inspired by the people I meet whose lives reflect the energy, innovation, and hope that defines California. My campaign gives voice to Californians who would otherwise not be heard or represented in our political process. Your life stories help define the kind of candidate I am and the kind of Senator I will be.
I grew up in Southern California as a child of two hard-working immigrant parents. As a public school kid, I was in the very first class of the then brand-new Head Start program. This wonderful program laid the foundation which allowed me to earn a Bachelor’s Degree and an MBA. Imagine how proud I felt the day I stood up in The House of Representatives and fought off attacks to dismantle this program. I let opponents know that we, as a nation, must fight to invest in ALL our people, not just a chosen few.
It is an honor to represent the people of Orange County and California in the House of Representatives since 1997. As a senior member of the Armed Services and Homeland Security Committees, I have the experience and knowledge necessary to be successful from day one as a U.S. Senator representing our nation’s largest state.
And, this year, Congressional Quarterly named me as one of the "The 25 Most Influential Women in Congress". They say that I "shape the debate" and know how to gather the "swing" votes.
You won't need to guess to know what kind of Senator I will be. All you need to do is check my record. Two votes on that record that you probably remember and which I am proud to have cast were NO on the Iraq War and NO on the Big Banks Bail Out.
